Riverside Residences is situated on a large picturesque site that wraps around a popular retail precinct. Sharing an entrance from Alison Avenue, the development has been designed to maximise privacy, light and views by locating the units around the edge of the site.
Having designed a number of projects in Central Otago, Matz Architects have developed a unique alpine aesthetic that is modern, practical and fitting of the spectacular surroundings. This collection of courtyard townhouses was conceived to sit comfortably within the local vernacular through the use of simple, yet striking forms and natural materials. The interplay of sharp monopitch rooflines mimics the dramatic backdrop of the Southern Alps, while a material palette of light bagged brick and vertical cladding and black metal compliments the surrounding landscape.
The majority of the two and three bedroom homes are grouped in lots of four terraced homes, each with its own private courtyard, with the remainder (including one-bedroom two-level townhouses) in a quadrant configuration with courtyards on both sides.
Many of the units have been consented as Visitor Accommodation meaning they can be rented full-time.
The units have efficient plans designed to accommodate owner-occupiers and holiday-makers with a full-sized kitchen, plenty of storage and multiple bathrooms.
The open plan living has a gas fireplace and the interior leads out to a generous private court perfect for outdoor entertaining. The timber flooring throughout the open plan living is a practical feature ideal after a day up the mountain. Upstairs, large picture windows in the master bedroom frame views across Albert Town to the surrounding ranges.
